Backgrounds set the scene in animated shows to visual story games. Like a character showcasing personality through their design, backgrounds set the tone, mood, and overall location of a scene. My work cultivates this idea from already made scenes as well as ones from my imagination.
Visual story games from Two and a Half Studios showcase the importance of background design to tell their story. With different locations, time changes, and the overall feel of the scene helps drive the narrative to its conclusion, as well as its plot twists. Backgrounds give root to curiosity for the viewers, questioning the characters’ circumstance and environment.
Illustrating backgrounds has always been fun and I’m constantly immersing myself into these scenes as if they were real life. Backgrounds are like seeds where they plant information into the viewer’s head and slowly grow into a whole world for one’s imagination.
